SVT reveals: Here are the places where Säpo spied on the Russian agent

On Monday, SVT was able to report that the Security Police stopped a Russian intelligence operation and revealed a secret agent at another country's embassy in Stockholm.

The information from Säpo is scarce, but based on the two images that have been published from the reconnaissance work, SVT can now tell where the secret agent has met his Russian contacts.

In one of the photographs taken in the reconnaissance work, a Russian intelligence officer can be seen walking with the agent. SVT has been able to establish that the picture was taken outside Sofia Church on Södermalm in Stockholm.

"I recognized it immediately"

A person who has been employed at the church for more than two decades has seen the photo and says he recognized the facade immediately - and can dial in a detail that means the photo could not have been taken in the last two months.

- I recognized it immediately, says an employee at the church when he sees Säpo's surveillance photo.

The second picture was taken at a pub in Sundbyberg, which SvD has also reported on. In the photo, the agent and another Russian intelligence officer sit at a table with a glass of beer and chicken wings each.

The owner Sohail Akther says that he recognizes the men in the picture and that they have been to the bar several times.

- They used to order beer and wiener schnitzel, he says.

Säpo: "Can't go into details"

Sohail Akther has a hard time answering exactly when the picture was taken, but it is clear that it happened sometime after April 2021. This is because a logo on the front door that can be seen on Säpo's reconnaissance image was put up after that date.

When was the last time you saw them?

- I think it was two months ago.

The security police state that the Russian intelligence operation has been going on for "a long time".

- In order not to complicate our continued operational work, we cannot go into details about the people who have been involved. It also applies to where, when and how they have had contact with each other. None of the people involved are in Sweden anymore, says Jonathan Svensson, press spokesperson at Säpo.
