Tadej Pogacar ends his 2026 season and extends with UAE-Emirates until 2032

Tadej Pogacar will not return to competition this season to “concentrate fully on his recovery” after surgery on his collarbone following his fall during the Tour of Spain, his UAE-Emirates team announced on Saturday.

“Get well quickly, Tadej. We will see you again in 2027,” she added, announcing in the same message that the 27-year-old rider had extended his contract until the end of the 2032 season. “At the moment, the most important thing is to recover well and give my body the time it needs,” commented Pogacar, quoted in the press release.

The Slovenian is therefore skipping the World Championships in Montreal in September, the European Championships in Slovenia at the beginning of October and the Tour of Lombardy, also in October. Three races in which he is the title holder. Another announcement of his training: its extension until 2032, while his previous contract ran until 2030.

Pogacar, firmly established at the head of the Tour of Spain, fell heavily on August 29 during the 8th stage 32 km from the finish. The five-time winner of the Tour de France got up with his left shoulder bleeding and his left brow bone open.

The diagnosis communicated the same evening by his team established that he suffered from “a concussion, a displaced fracture of the left clavicle, a stable fracture of the C7 cervical vertebra and multiple abrasions”. Pogacar then posted on his social networks a photo of himself taken on his hospital bed, neck brace around his neck, accompanied by the Bee Gees song “Stayin’ alive”. He had “successful” surgery, according to his team, on his collarbone on August 31.
