Tanzid Hasan Makes History as Bangladesh Dominate Australia in First Test

Tanzid Hasan became the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century in Australia as Bangladesh dominated to reach 351-6 at stumps on the second day of the first Test in Darwin. Inspired by Tanzid's 101 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's 84, Bangladesh lead by 153 runs with four wickets in hand.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (32*) and Hasan Mahmud (13*) shared a gritty 40-run partnership after Bangladesh lost three wickets in quick succession following Tanzid's dismissal. Tanzid, in his second Test, looked in complete control, bringing up his century with a push through mid-off off Nathan Lyon. He was eventually caught by Mitchell Starc at deep mid-off trying to hit Lyon out of the ground.

"They batted really well obviously," said Australian opener Jake Weatherald. "We missed a few chances but all credit to them. The wicket’s changed a bit since our first innings so we’re excited to get out there – it looks like a really good batting track."

Bangladesh started the day at 96-1 and batted comfortably through the first hour. Tanzid reached his half-century before the first drinks break, and with Mominul Haque, took Bangladesh to 138-2. After Mominul's dismissal for 49, Najmul increased the scoring rate. However, the second new ball saw Bangladesh lose Najmul, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Litton Das in quick succession, all caught at second slip by Steve Smith. Mehidy and Hasan then dug in, taking the lead past 150.
