Teacher fatally stabbed by stalker inside Faridabad school

GURGAON: The man who stabbed a 26-year-old teacher to death inside a Faridabad school on Monday had allegedly stalked her for nearly two years, her family told TOI on Tuesday. Earlier this year, he had allegedly abducted her from her house, assaulted her husband, and didn't leave her alone despite assurances by his family that he would stay away. The brutal murder followed Sandhya cutting off all contact with him and threatening him with a police complaint if he continued to pursue her, the family alleged.

Amit (21) — who delivers milk in Kot — became acquainted with Sandhya in 2024 when she taught for about four months at a private school near his home. The acquaintance, according to family members, turned into harassment as Amit became obsessed with her. “She was teaching primary classes in Kot village when Amit came into contact with her. Even after she left, he kept pursuing her,” said Mahender, an uncle of Sandhya’s husband, Vikas. Family members alleged that the harassment escalated over the next few months. Around a year ago, Vikas had broken Sandhya’s mobile phone in an attempt to sever all communication with Amit. But Amit refused to back off.

This Jan, he allegedly went to Sandhya and Vikas’s house at Firozpur Kalan and forcibly took her to Kot. “Amit was desperate to marry her. He didn't care that she was already married and had two children. He took her away when her husband was not home,” said Dharmo, another relative. According to the family, elders from Kot and Firozpur Kalan villages intervened and brought Sandhya back home after the two families met. They said the police were informed but no complaint was filed after Amit’s family assured them he would not contact her again.

The promise did not last. Mahender claimed Amit returned to Firozpur Kalan about three months ago and assaulted Vikas. “Sandhya had made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him. After she refused to meet him again, he held a grudge against her and her family,” he said. Police said they are verifying the family’s allegations about the alleged abduction and assault. ACP Aman Yadav said Sandhya had repeatedly objected to Amit’s behaviour. “She warned him that she would lodge a police complaint if he continued harassing her. We are verifying the earlier incidents mentioned by the family,” he added.

Around 9.30am on Monday, Amit entered Saraswati Senior Secondary School in Sikrona by using Vikas’s nickname (Vicky) to trick her into coming to the main gate. When she came out, he stabbed her repeatedly in front of other staff and students. CCTV footage captured the chilling attack, in which she suffered multiple injuries to her neck, chest and back. Police said the exact number of stab wounds will be confirmed after the autopsy. Sandhya’s family has demanded the strictest punishment for the accused, alleging that repeated acts of harassment went unchecked before culminating in the killing.

“His family had taken responsibility for his behaviour, but they failed to keep their promise. They should also be held accountable,” a villager who came to Sandhya’s home on Tuesday said. Questions have also been raised about security arrangements at the school. Villagers alleged there was no guard at the entrance, allowing the masked accused to enter the campus without being challenged even though around 300 students were present on the campus. When TOI visited the school on Tuesday, there was no security guard posted. Principal Tejpal Sharma said the regular female guard was on medical leave for a week. “A woman peon sitting at the gate informed Sandhya that someone claiming to be her husband had come to meet her,” he said.

Amit was arrested two hours after the murder. Sandhya, who had a love marriage with Vikas, is survived by Vikas, a driver, and their two children — a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.
