Teenager Charged in Connection with Arson Attack on Jewish Charity Ambulances

A teenager has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with an alleged arson attack on four Jewish charity-owned ambulances in Golders Green, north London. Subhan Ahmed, 18, is alleged to have made arrangements to scrap his car to help others avoid arrest or prosecution. Ahmed, of Walthamstow, north-east London, has been bailed and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates on 16 June. He is the fifth person to be charged over the attacks on the Hatzola ambulances on 23 March. The fire led to an explosion and caused about £1m of damage to the vehicles and medical equipment, with nearby flats and a synagogue also affected. Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, Judex Atshatshi, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously appeared in court over the fire and were bailed until August. Iqbal, Khan, and the teenager are charged with arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. Atshatshi is charged with arson with intent to damage and being reckless as to whether life would be endangered. Prosecutors have said they believe the incident was a targeted attack against the Jewish community. The fire is among several attacks on Jewish targets in London in recent months that are being investigated by counter-terrorism officers in the Metropolitan Police, including a double stabbing in Golders Green, and attacks on synagogues and a Jewish business.
