Egyptian TV presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 others sentenced to death for drug trafficking

Egyptian television presenter Sarah Khalifa, 39, and 11 others were sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and rape by an Egyptian court. The verdict, which requires religious approval under Egyptian law, was confirmed a month after initial announcement following a fatwa from the Grand Mufti. Khalifa denies the charges and claims she only saw drugs when photographed with them at anti-narcotics offices. The case involved seizure of over 750kg of narcotics and raw materials, with twenty witness statements and electronic evidence presented during trial.
