Udine, murder with screwdriver: manhunt for personal revenge

The man who killed another 65-year-old man, Abdellatif Bensefiyan, with a screwdriver last night in Udine is still on the run. The wanted man is a 32-year-old of Moroccan origins who, after attacking his compatriot, fled on foot, losing track of himself. According to the reconstruction of the investigators, the victim was returning home in Via Castions with shopping bags when he was surprised by the killer who was waiting for him hidden behind a hedge. Multiple stab wound marks were found on the body of the 65-year-old and a bloody screwdriver, a possible murder weapon, was found on the ground next to the body and seized by the police. Rescue was immediate but the victim was already in critical condition: the 118 health workers provided initial treatment and urgently transported him to the hospital where the man's condition worsened and he died shortly after arrival. Abdellatif Bensefiyan worked in the newspaper distribution sector and lived in Udine, where he leaves his partner. The Udine prosecutor's office has opened a case for murder, which could be aggravated by premeditation.

Ports and hospitals manned

The fugitive, with no criminal record, formally resides in Rive d'Arcano, in the province of Udine, but for some months he has been gravitating to the Codroipo area and surrounding areas. It is precisely in this area that searches are being concentrated, with intensified checks and patrols. The police have intensified controls in the main connection hubs in the Northeast, with particular attention to ports, airports and railway stations. The investigators' belief is in fact that the 32-year-old, after having fled on foot through the fields, may try to quickly move away from Italy and reach Morocco, where he has interests and relatives.

Revenge

The motive for the murder would be revenge linked to personal issues between the fugitive and the victim's sister: the 32-year-old, according to initial hypotheses, had had a relationship with the woman who, however, a month ago, had decided to end the relationship. The man, as the 38-year-old herself told investigators, did not accept the end of the story and put pressure on her. Three days before the crime he had also shown up at the woman's workplace to meet her and, when she refused, he had threatened her with death. The investigators, who are acquiring any images from the video surveillance cameras and collecting testimonies, are also verifying an episode that occurred yesterday, when the car of another relative of the woman was damaged.
