A fire in a migrant settlement in Ceuta burns 42 shanties without leaving any injuries

A fire that broke out last midnight in the front of a warehouse in the Tarajal Industrial Estate, where many of the migrants who entered Ceuta illegally on July 30 and 31 remain, has burned 42 of the shanties they had built to spend the night.

As sources from the Fire Extinguishing Service have informed Efe, the fire originated around midnight in one of the settlements located in the industrial warehouses in this area and it was the neighbors themselves who alerted the emergency service.

Firefighters went to the area as well as units from the National Police, the Local Police and the Armed Forces due to the magnitude of the flames.

The agents had to evacuate the migrants who were sleeping nearby to prevent them from being affected by the smoke and there have been no injuries.

The fire was located at the front of the ships, where a camp is located where migrants are sheltered with wood, cardboard and other types of elements.

Firefighters have explained that the fire has not caused damage to the structures of the warehouses and the origin could be one of the campfires, although an investigation is underway.

In the fire, the shanties have been burned as well as the plastics and waste of all kinds that were in their surroundings.

Even though it was the largest, the El Tarajal fire was not the only one that occurred yesterday. The Ceuta Firefighters have described the early hours of this Friday as a "terrible night", in which in addition to intervening in the Tarajal settlements, they had to go to put out the flames in different parts of the city, which left eight vehicles and four containers burned, Europa Press reports.

Specifically, throughout the early morning, fires also broke out in eight vehicles, located on Francisco Javier Sauquillo Street, Phase 2 of the Polígono, next to the El Conertín daycare center, the IES Abyla parking lot and the downtown area of ​​the city.

The Firefighters also intervened due to the fire of four containers, two of them in Los Rosales and another two in the Juan Carlos I neighborhood.

The authorities have not yet reported who is responsible or who is responsible for all these fires recorded during the early hours of the morning.

Added to these events was another fire declared during the afternoon of Thursday, around 6:00 p.m., in the vicinity of Trampolín beach, near the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI), in a mountain area.

This last fire was smaller in magnitude and could be controlled in a few minutes. As in the case of the fire at the Tarajal warehouses, the authorities have not yet reported who is responsible for this latest fire.
