A 17-year-old seriously injured during a brawl with weapons in Saint-Renan

They had come to play football, bringing a real arsenal. On the night of August 24, around 11:30 p.m., a 17-year-old young man was discovered “bloody and seriously injured” on the public highway in Saint-Renan, in Finistère, the Brest public prosecutor, Stéphane Kellenberg, said in a press release. And the context of this drama is alarming.

It had all started a few minutes earlier near a city stadium, where an “improvised” football match brought together several groups of young people. A most ordinary scene, which nevertheless descended into violence. “Pockmarked with conflicts and insults,” the game degenerated into a general brawl – “one group attacked another after the match,” explains the prosecution. During this brawl, “knives”, “gas guns”, “iron bars” and even “airsoft” type weapons were brandished by the attackers. The 17-year-old victim was hit by several of these weapons - including "a chest wound." Taken into care by emergency services, he would have suffered “total incapacity for work, medically fixed at 10 days.”

Four arrests

An investigation was immediately opened by the public prosecutor for attempted intentional homicide, entrusted to the Brest gendarmerie research brigade in conjunction with that of Saint-Renan. Thanks to “video exploitation”, the investigators trace the thread of this evening, image by image, until the elements are sufficiently solid for the “National Gendarmerie, under the direction of the Brest Prosecutor’s Office” to launch a wave of arrests on September 2.
