Restarting war with Iran 'won't make America stronger', Sanders says

US Senator Bernie Sanders — one of the strongest voices opposing the war within US domestic politics — has condemned Mr Trump's declaration that the ceasefire with Iran is "over" after less than a month.

"Restarting his reckless war with Iran won't make America stronger. It will cost more lives and waste more taxpayer dollars," he wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump has just landed in the UK, with Air Force One touching down at Suffolk's RAF Mildenhall airbase within the past few minutes.

He seems to be posting on social media as his plane sits on the tarmac, reposting a selection of videos on his Truth Social platform, presumably meant to show this morning's strikes on Iran.

"This is in retribution for yesterday's bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!" he writes above a screenshot of a post featuring a picture that has since been retracted by the account in question, as it doesn't show this morning's strikes.

Iran's foreign minister says nation answers 'with action'

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has promised his nation would respond to criticism with "action".

He posted on X about four hours before the latest round of strikes, after US President Donald Trump called Iran "scum".

Mr Araghchi took aim at the "derogatory language".

"We do not answer vulgarity with vulgarity, but with action: fearlessly and with great valour," he said.

US refuelling aircraft returning to Middle East, reports say

Israel's KAN public broadcaster reported late yesterday that the US has begun returning refuelling aircraft to the Middle East, a possible indication that Israel could be involved in future strikes on Iran.

Israel has only recently obtained its own large refuelling aircraft — a KC-46 Pegasus tanker named "Gideon" — but still relies on US tankers to conduct sustained long-range strike missions like those it has carried out in Iran over the past few months.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to meet with Defence Minister Israel Katz to discuss potential renewed Israeli involvement in the conflict over the past few hours.

Eight explosions heard in Bandar Abbas

An Iranian state TV reporter says eight explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas.

Reuters is also reporting that two projectiles hit Sirik Port and two exploded on Jask Port.

Meanwhile, Iran's ISNA news agency is reporting that two of the three powerlines cut off in Chabahar have been restored and the third will be operational "soon".

An unnamed US official has told Reuters the strikes against Iran are expected to be bigger than yesterday's.

Meanwhile, a reporter for US news outlet Axios, Barak Ravid, says an unnamed US official told him the strikes were wider in scope.

"The targets include [The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] coastal radars, anti-ship missile positions and air defence systems," he says.

Iran's state broadcaster is reporting that explosions have been heard on Abu Musa Island.

That's an island in the Strait of Hormuz, west of Dubai.

Iranian news outlet IRIB is also reporting shrapnel from the US attacks have struck the Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar.

With the entire world anticipating this round of US strikes, it's no surprise Iran's military has been preparing a response.

Iran's Nournews outlet, a state-linked news site, is now citing an Iranian military source as saying Iran is planning to launch a "massive" attack on US army bases in the Middle East very shortly.

Nournews is also reporting that the US attack on targets in Bushehr did not cause any damage to the region's nuclear power plant, according to "an informed source".

Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) is reporting power has been knocked out in parts of the south-eastern city of Chabahar, on Iran's southern coastline east of the Strait of Hormuz.

Mehr is also reporting explosions have been heard in the province of Bushehr, further north-west of the strait in the upper half of the Persian Gulf.

Trump flagged US strikes in advance at NATO summit

This morning's strikes were flagged well in advance, with US President Donald Trump openly musing about what America would target while speaking about the conflict at the NATO summit.

"It may be a big attack and it'll knock out a lot of stuff," he said sitting next to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I give them a little warning. We're going to hit them hard tonight."

However, Mr Trump said the US was not planning to attack at the "highest level," saying bridges, power plants and desalination facilities would only be in the US military's sights "if we have to".

He also suggested Kharg Island, Iran's vital oil facility in the Strait of Hormuz, could be a target as well.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed the US military is carrying out renewed strikes on Iran, at the direction of Mr Trump.

"The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway," CENTCOM posted on social media.

US news outlet Axios says a US official has confirmed to the outlet that the military is conducting strikes in Iran.
