Huge, we almost had a sprint between Chassagne and Olson (yes, after 174 km)!
The Frenchman was able to preserve his 2nd place (in 18h47''38'') but he had to work hard in the face of the big comeback from the American Caleb Olson (18'48''24).
The 23rd edition of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) took place in Chamonix (Haute-Savoie) from Friday evening, with 170 km on the program to cover across three countries and 9,700 m of elevation gain.
The American Ben Dhiman (2nd last year), who lives in the Pyrenees, flew through the race with a stratospheric performance, finishing with a fantastic time in 18h16. Highly visible, the Frenchman Baptiste Chassagne had to settle for second place, as in 2024 (31 minutes behind Dhiman).
For a French victory, we had to wait for the arrival of Blandine L'Hirondel, untouchable for a long time, then heroic in an ultra-stressful/moving finale after having suffered two falls.

We just saw the American passing the Trient refreshment station (km 144) and he was graaaaave in machine mode! He only changed his full ball flasks. Baptiste Chassagne clearly cannot count on a failure on his part.

Blandine L’Hirondel queen of the UTMB this Saturday ????
We strongly believe in it: the French obstetrician-gynecologist took the lead of the race brilliantly during the night! She is the first trail runner to have reached Grand Col Ferret (km 104), with a gap of 15 minutes over the American Rachel Entrekin. A lot can happen in 70 miles, of course, but the 35-year-old trail runner is touching her career Holy Grail.

What a number from the young Frenchman, this morning, at the last check-in at La Fouly (km 114), he remains in the running for the final victory. Baptiste Chassagne is in fact only 25 minutes behind the American Ben Dhiman, still impressive but not necessarily untouchable.

We left them in very poor shape (especially the rider Hoka), when it was time to close their eyes for a little while, and you can imagine that the only two UTMB winners competing this year, Vincent Bouillard and Courtney Dauwalter, gave up at the end of the night. Woooooh, Vincent Bouillard totally explodes!
Here he is 66th overall, although he was stuck in the Top 5 for a long time during the evening. The night was fatal for him, and we are waiting to know more about a possible physical problem for the recent winner of the legendary Western States. The only winner of a UTMB in the 2026 men's table, the rider Hoka is now out of the race for a double in Chamonix.
