Vast fire in Positano, flames and landslide on the Amalfi state road

A large fire broke out around 2 am in Positano, in the San Pietro area. The fire involved a large slope of vegetation and the flames, fueled by the wind, spread rapidly along the ridge, creating a particularly worrying scenario also for homes and tourist facilities. More fire brigade teams are working on site and, given the extent of the fire, aerial vehicles have also been activated. The flames also caused a landslide on the Amalfitana state road 163, at km 16,300. During the night the state road was temporarily closed to traffic to allow for rescue and safety operations.

Three fire brigade teams intervened on site: that of the Maiori detachment, one from the Salerno provincial command and that of the Sorrento detachment, which arrived to strengthen the operations. The shutdown and safety activities are still underway on a particularly difficult slope. The Municipality of Positano has also invited the owners of vehicles parked along the affected stretch to remove them, in order to leave free passage for emergency vehicles. There is also a director of firefighting operations on site who, given the extent of the fire, ordered the use of aerial vehicles.
