VfL Bochum wins away game at Dynamo Dresden 2-1

VfL Bochum celebrated its first away win of the season and pushed hosts Dynamo Dresden into the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the top game of the fourth match day, the Bochum team won 2:1 (2:1). Koji Miyoshi (4th, 25th) gave the guests the lead with a double strike in front of 30,583 spectators. Ben Bobzien (41st) gave Dresden hope with the goal before the break, but this was not fulfilled after the break.

The guests started aggressively and punished Dresden's defensive mistakes twice. The Saxons' uncertainty was noticeable after the 3:5 defeat in Heidenheim. No risks were taken forward, responsibility at the back was repeatedly shifted to the man next to him with cross and back passes. The fact that it was still enough to score a goal was more due to chance, as a ball that had already been lost ended up in Niklas Hauptmann's hands, who then tipped off the goal scorer Bobzien. In a first half that was poor in highlights, referee Harm Osmers was the most noticeable person, having already handed out seven of his eight yellow cards by the break.

Offensive styles of play after the break

After the break, both teams developed more of a goal threat. Dynamo were lucky that a shot from Gerrit Holtmann (58th) hit the post. On the other side, counterattack attempts by Bobzien and Hauptmann (60') and a header from Vincent Vermeij (62') were ablaze. The biggest opportunity to make a preliminary decision was prevented by Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber, who brilliantly parried a shot from Miyoshi (65th).

Dynamo pushed for the equalizer. Hauptmann (68th) only hit the inside post after a backheel from Vermeij. New signing Kennedy Okpala (83') also failed to hit the goal from a favorable position. Dynamo must be accused of massively neglecting wing play and thus making it easy for the Bochum defense. There was rarely any relief from the guests.
