More explosive devices discovered in East Saxony: search for saboteur is underway

After attempted attacks on the power grid in East Saxony, the police discovered nine more self-made explosive devices in the immediate area of ​​high-voltage lines south of the Graustein substation near Schleife (Görlitz district). These were defused by special forces from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA), as the LKA announced. This brings the total number of explosive devices found in Saxony to 21.

The Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office, the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Görlitz Police Department continue to ask the public for support in the ongoing investigations.

On Saturday, the Dresden police and public prosecutor's office announced that a total of twelve explosive devices had been found in the Lusatian brown coal region on the border with Brandenburg. “These were intended to cause damage to the electrical high-voltage lines through a short circuit,” the police and the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office had informed. There was no damage to the power grid and there was no danger to the population, it said.

The search for suspects is ongoing

Meanwhile, an intensive search is underway for a man who is said to have carried out sabotage actions against the German power grid. The incidents are concentrated in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Brandenburg and Saxony. The police and public prosecutor's office in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia published a joint search call on Saturday with two photos of the 48-year-old and are asking the public for information. On Sunday there was a major operation in the Hambach Forest near Cologne, but no evidence of the man was found there.

On Friday, police officers found explosives in the suspect's apartment in Gevelsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Later, a special operations team stormed a truck in a forest in Niederzier, around 100 kilometers away, that had apparently been converted into a mobile home. However, the person they were looking for was not found.
