2 People Lost Their Lives in Forest Fires in Greece

While fire crews' ground extinguishing efforts continued all night, aerial extinguishing efforts were also started at the first light of the day. 4 firefighting aircraft and 2 firefighting helicopters were assigned to the region. Greek Fire Brigade Spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakoyannis, in his statement, stated that 9 people have been injured in the fire so far and that fire extinguishing efforts are continuing. Today, around 15:00 local time, a forest fire broke out in two different locations on Salamina Island, in the Peristeria and Selinia regions, and fire crews initiated intervention from both land and air. Residents of the region were faced with heavy smoke, and the Peristeria, Kolones, Dei Halioti and Perani areas were evacuated.
