Charges regarding the explosion of a tenement house in Poznań. Two firefighters are dead

Adam H. and Agnieszka W-H. At the end of July, they were charged with unintentionally causing a fire, the collapse of a tenement house and the explosion of flammable materials, which resulted in the death of two firefighters on the spot. The prosecutor's office announced them on Tuesday, August 18.

The suspects pleaded not guilty and refused to provide explanations. They face from 6 months to 8 years in prison.

Prosecutor's office: cell failure was the cause

The fire occurred on the night of August 24-25, 2024. During the rescue operation, there was an explosion, after which the tenement house collapsed.

According to the experts' findings, the fire allegedly started as a result of the failure of a cell or a set of cells located in the rooms used by LUPO. Then flammable gases accumulated there, including: hydrogen, ethylene and methane. The sudden introduction of air led to an explosion.

Over 6 tons of cells in the building

During the investigation, 59 witnesses were interviewed, an inspection was carried out using drones and 3D technology, and surveillance recordings were secured. Over 6 tons of electric cells were found in the rooms used by LUPO.

According to the prosecutor's office, the production and warehouse activities were conducted in violation of the required conditions and fire protection regulations. It is these irregularities that the company's representatives are to be held responsible for.
