The battery recycling and energy storage company has hired former Tesla finance chief Deepak Ahuja, reuniting him with former Tesla CTO JB Straubel.

Redwood Materials Chief Operating Officer Chris Lister, a former Tesla executive, is retiring after joining the battery recycling company in late 2023. His departure follows recent layoffs of roughly 135 employees (10% of workforce) as the company restructures to focus on its growing energy storage business. Several other executives have also left in recent months.

Redwood Materials laid off approximately 135 employees, or about 10% of its workforce, as the battery recycling company restructures to focus on its growing energy storage business. The cuts follow a 5% reduction five months prior and come amid broader industry challenges, including Ascend Elements' Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. CEO JB Straubel told remaining employees the company is "the strongest it's ever been" and emphasized momentum in energy storage.
