The World Health Organization says no rats were found on board the cruise vessel where the outbreak has taken hold, with three people having died of confirmed or suspected infections of the rat-borne virus.
At least 9 tourists died after a cruise boat capsized at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Construction workers from a nearby Jaal Jeevan Mission project immediately jumped into the choppy waters, forming human chains and using ropes to rescue over a dozen passengers in the critical early minutes before professional rescuers arrived. Among the heroes was 22-year-old Ramzan from West Bengal who jumped from a 25-foot rocky ledge and saved 6 people. The state government announced Rs 51,000 cash reward for each rescuer.
