Georgia State Troopers Fired for Filing Fraudulent Insurance Claims After Vehicle Pursuits
Three Georgia State Patrol troopers were fired after an internal investigation found they intentionally used patrol vehicles to bump or perform PIT maneuvers on pursued vehicles, then filed fraudulent personal injury claims through a private attorney to collect insurance payouts. Troopers Hunter Waters, Tyler Byrd, and Isaiah Francois, along with their supervisor Sgt. Joseph Curlee, were terminated for violating department policy and ethical standards. Waters received $25,000 from three claims, Byrd received $50,000 from two claims, while Francois had not yet received payment. The scheme was reported by another trooper who heard colleagues joking about which chases would qualify for a 'check'.
