Mona opens subterranean library 'Phrontisterion' with rare books and unique cataloguing
The Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) in Hobart has unveiled its new subterranean library, Phrontisterion, after a decade of planning and over $100 million in costs. The library houses rare books like Shakespeare's First Folio and Nabokov's Lolita, alongside handwritten documents from notable figures. It features a unique cataloguing system designed by Art Processors, moving away from Dewey Decimal to foster broader relationships between books.
