대웅제약은 차임 바이오로직스와 지난달 28일 서울에서 바이오시밀러 위탁 개발·생산, 상업화 협력을 위한 협약을 체결했다고 2일 전했다.
양사는 특히 아토피 피부염과 천식 치료 등에 쓰는 의약품인 듀피젠트의 바이오시밀러 개발에 주력하기로 했다.
듀피젠트는 지난해 세계 매출액이 178억 달러(약 27조원)에 달한 블록버스터 품목이라고 대웅제약이 설명했다.
듀피젠트 특허는 2031년 전후에 만료될 것으로 알려졌다.
이에 국내에서도 경동제약[011040], 종근당[185750], 삼성바이오에피스 등 여러 업체가 듀피젠트 바이오시밀러 개발을 추진하고 있다.
대웅제약 관계자는 "이번 계약을 계기로 글로벌 바이오 품목 포트폴리오를 한층 넓혀 나갈 것"이라며 듀피젠트 바이오시밀러를 차세대 글로벌 바이오 품목으로 육성하겠다고 말했다.
