Activist Sonam Wangchuk's Doctor Raises Suspicion Over Hospital's Medical Reports

Activist Sonam Wangchuk's doctor, Dr. Nitin Dighe, has raised suspicions over the medical reports issued by Safdarjung Hospital, indicating a potassium deficiency. Dr. Dighe claims that a blood sample he took from Wangchuk at 3 PM on Friday showed normal potassium levels (4.8, higher than the normal value of 3.5). However, the hospital now reports a drop in these levels. Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, has requested his discharge and transfer to another hospital, citing distrust in the government lab. Despite his health condition, the planned protest march to Parliament on July 20 is set to proceed, with Wangchuk's wife participating if he cannot.

Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after a 20-day hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over nationwide exam irregularities, including the NEET paper leak controversy. The Delhi Police transferred him to the hospital following the Delhi High Court's directions due to his deteriorating health. The hospital's health bulletin states that Wangchuk was conscious upon admission with stable vital signs but showed signs of dehydration and decreased serum potassium. He has refused all treatment.

Delhi Police officials claim maximum restraint was used during the operation to shift Wangchuk from the Jantar Mantar protest site.
