〔記者翁聿煌/新北報導〕台灣已邁入超高齡社會,失智症人口持續增加,根據衛生福利部推估,目前全台失智症人口已超過38萬人,平均每100位65歲以上長者約有8人罹患失智症,面對失智症所帶來的記憶退化、情緒不穩及社會互動減少等問題,近年來「動物輔助療癒」逐漸受到重視,成為失智照護的重要非藥物介入方式之一。

台灣動物輔助治療專業發展協會現任常務監事暨名譽理事長陳美麗,原本是護理師,兩年多前從大學護理系退休,他的母親年邁失智,在藥物治療無效後,改以多元非藥物療法,陳美麗轉而研究動物輔療,成為全亞洲第4位資深高級動物輔助治療師。

陳美麗表示,台灣從2018年開始,全台每年新增的「貓狗登記數量」首次超過「新生兒出生人數」,到了2023年,貓狗登記數已高出新生兒近10萬隻,宣告台灣進入「養毛孩比生小孩多」時代,在高齡照顧領域中,這群毛茸茸的夥伴也展現出意想不到的療癒力量。

陳美麗曾到美國西雅圖某養老院實習,每位長輩面前有一隻專屬、喜歡的狗,透過專業設計的活動,引導長輩與狗互動,藉由撫摸、呼喚、餵食及遊戲等過程,刺激認知功能與肢體活動能力,許多長者在面對照服員時較少表達,但看到治療犬後,往往能主動開口說話,甚至分享過往養狗、養貓的生活記憶。

陳美麗說,動物輔療不只是針對失智長輩,有特殊需求的族群,如認知理解有困難,語言溝通、人際互動或情緒抒發有困難者,均可以運用,毛小孩不僅是家庭中的陪伴者,更可能成為失智照顧的重要夥伴,透過動物輔助療癒的推廣,讓更多失智長者在溫暖陪伴中找回笑容,也為高齡照護開啟更多元的人文關懷可能。
