RABAT, August 6. /TASS/. Paramilitary groupings operating in Iraq are planning to deliver strikes on neighboring countries, using UAVs, within the next 48 hours, the Al Hadath television channel has reported, citing sources in Iraqi security structures.
The warning was issued at a special meeting with Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. It is not specified which states may be targeted.
Almost simultaneously, the Iraqi agency INA published a press release stating that "Iraq will not turn into a launching pad for carrying out an internal or external threat to any country." It also said that the prime minister's order to increase combat readiness "will begin in the border zone and will spread to all areas of Iraq."
Al Hadath also reported that paramilitary groupings in Iraq have begun redeploying their formations "due to fears of a new escalation of tension," while security forces are monitoring their movements to prevent provocations from Iraqi territory.
