Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will jointly inaugurate Maruti Suzuki India's manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda in Haryana today via video conferencing, around 3:15-3:30 pm.

The inauguration will be held alongside the India-Japan Economic Forum in New Delhi, where over 150 Japanese companies are participating.

The Kharkhoda plant is Maruti Suzuki's fourth manufacturing facility in India after Gurugram, Manesar and Gujarat. Spread across nearly 800 acres with an integrated supplier park, it currently has two operational manufacturing units with a combined installed capacity of 5 lakh vehicles annually. The company plans to scale this up to 10 lakh vehicles a year in phases, a milestone towards an eventual 40 lakh annual production capacity.

Maruti Suzuki has earmarked a total investment of Rs 35,000 crore for the facility, which is expected to create over 21,000 direct jobs.

The plant is built on the company's 'Suzuki Smart Factory' concept, incorporating Industry 5.0-enabled manufacturing and AI-powered human-aware collaborative robots, or cobots, to improve manufacturing precision, productivity and workplace safety.

On sustainability, the facility will run on 100% renewable electricity, feature 100% water recycling, and operate as a Zero Liquid Discharge manufacturing unit. Maruti Suzuki also plans to commission a biogas plant within FY2026-27, develop an in-house solar power plant with capacity of up to 70 MW at full production capacity, and build an in-plant railway siding to support greener logistics.

The company has said the Kharkhoda project is a key step in its 'Make in India, Make for the World' strategy.
