Attorney-General Kyam Maher lodged an application for his indefinite detention earlier this year, which Liddy's lawyer asked the court to stay permanently.

The Supreme Court refused to shelve the application and will hear further submissions on that matter later this year.

But the court has decided to release Liddy from jail — at least temporarily — while those proceedings continue.

While in home detention, Liddy will be subject to strict conditions including electronic monitoring and restricted internet access.
