The West Gippsland region, east of Pakenham, boasts one of regional Victoria's fastest-growing populations, leading to unmet infrastructure needs, particularly for healthcare.

Yazı boyutu

The Victorian Liberal National Coalition has promised to build a new hospital for the growing West Gippsland region if it wins the November election.

In 2022, then-premier Daniel Andrews promised $675 million to build a new 223-bed hospital in West Gippsland at a greenfield site in Drouin by 2028.

Even though the region, east of Pakenham, boasts one of regional Victoria's fastest-growing populations, construction is yet to begin.

The hospital received funding for planning and development in the 2023 Victorian budget as part of a $320 million fund to prepare for the delivery of seven major hospital projects across the state.

Today, Liberal leader Jess Wilson said a Coalition government would invest $850 million to build the new hospital.

The commitment includes 230 beds and treatment spaces, an emergency department with 33 treatment spaces, 60 residential care beds, and accommodation for healthcare workers.

Ms Wilson said ensuring Victorians have access to quality healthcare is "a top priority for my team".

"West Gippsland is a rapidly growing region, but under Labor basic infrastructure needs are not being met or keeping pace," she said.

Shadow Health Minister Georgia Crozier said the West Gippsland community had waited four years for ground to break on the project.

"This community, like many communities, are not getting a government focused on their needs," she said.

"We will move immediately to get the final planning completed and start to deliver on this commitment."

Bundan Sonra Ne Olabilir?
