24-year-old woman dies after allegedly consuming acid in Kasaragod

A 24-year-old woman died after allegedly consuming acid at her husband’s house at Panalam under Vidyanagar police station limits in Kasaragod. The deceased has been identified as Fathimath Sufaida, a native of Cherladukkam. She allegedly consumed acid in front of her in-laws on Saturday night. Though she was rushed to hospital, she died shortly after midnight. Her family said Sufaida had allegedly been subjected to mental and physical harassment by her husband and mother-in-law. They alleged that her husband had been harassing her over dowry. Family members said there had been an altercation at her husband’s house earlier on Saturday. Vidyanagar SHO said Sufaida had called her brother to the house and was preparing to return to her home when her husband Adil told her that if she left, she should not return. He also allegedly snatched her mobile phone and smashed it on the floor. Police have taken Adil into custody.
