广南联络线作为完善粤港澳大湾区综合交通网络的重要工程，是广州铁路枢纽“高铁进中心城区”建设的重要组成部分，全长16公里，设计时速200公里。全长13.2公里的西塱隧道为全线重点控制性工程(其中盾构段总长11.8公里)，是广州中心城区首条超大直径高铁隧道，也是粤港澳大湾区转弯半径最小的大盾构铁路隧道。

该隧道地质条件复杂、施工难度大、安全风险高，是项目攻坚的关键，由3台大直径盾构机分三段施工掘进，目前已累计掘进8382米。
自开工以来，项目团队为“永庆号”盾构机定制智能化装备，创新施工技术，集成电子围栏定位系统，依托北斗导航为施工安全加装“数字防护盾”，对风险源实行全天候自动化监测。
据国铁广州局广州工程建设指挥部广南段落指挥部主管工程师刘德峰介绍，项目建成后将串联起广州站、广州白云站、广州南站等铁路核心枢纽，显著提升粤港澳大湾区轨道交通互联互通水平，深港、珠澳方向的高铁可直达广州中心城区，广州南站到市中心将从40分钟缩短到15分钟左右。(完)
