Polanski accuses Times of ‘scraping the barrel’ over his claim to be charity spokesperson – UK politics live

Green leader said he hosted fundraisers for the Red Cross but accepts he should not have described himself as a spokesperson for itGood morning. Zack Polanski was largely unknown until he became the Green party leader in September last year and since then, as his party has soared in the polls, there has been intense scrutiny of his pre-politics career. The best-known embarrassing revelation about his past is the fact that he once told a woman he could enlarge her breasts if she listened to his hypnotherapy spiel. Nigel Farage, who also leads a dispruption party enjoying spectacular success, has scandals in his past too, and Polanski’s allies would argue that they are worse. Farage took a £5m donation from a political supporter which he did not declare, he still has not provided as good explanation as to how his partner was able to afford to buy a home in Farage’s Clacton constituency and arguably he told 30 million women that he could enlarge the size of their bank balances if they listened to his spiel on Brexit. Guardian readers can decide for themselves who is more dodgy. But, as we tell our children, life isn’t fair. And it certainly isn’t fair for leftwing politicians campaigning in an environment where the rightwing media have considerable influence. Polanski discovered that again last night when the Times printed a story with various claims about him, of which the main one related to an allegation about his embellishing his CV. Here is our version by Jessica Elgot.I hosted various fundraisers for the British Red Cross, and indeed I would go on stage and speak for them about the amazing work they do tackling humanitarian crises, on the climate crisis and indeed for refugees all around the world.I used the wrong word and I accept that.It feels some of these stories feel like scraping the barrel to go back 10, 15 years.I’ve had so many friends – I’m literally talking maybe 20 or 30 in the last few weeks – who have phoned me and said a Times journalist has been phoning and they’ve been desperately trying to find things about your past. They asked me lots of questions and seem disappointed that I didn’t have some juicy, dirty gossip. Continue reading...

RCB wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma has explained his comment describing RR teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as "unprofessional", which sparked discussion on social media. The remark originated during a chat with AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel where Jitesh named the 15-year-old as a young Indian player with big potential. Speaking on an RCB podcast, Jitesh clarified they are very close friends, describing Vaibhav as like his younger brother who loves ice cream and typical teenage activities. He defended the youngster against criticism, stating he is only 15 and should be allowed to be a child.

Carrick's Manchester United Interim Role Sparks Managerial Debate as Season Nears End

Manchester United face a pivotal decision on Michael Carrick's future as interim manager, with the former midfielder having won nine of his 13 matches in charge. While Jamie Carragher insists Carrick will be the next permanent manager, critics point to narrow wins against the run of play and over-reliance on Bruno Fernandes. Owner Jim Ratcliffe's track record of poor decisions adds uncertainty to the season's end choice.

Being Young And Fit No Longer Protects You From High Cholesterol: Doctor Shares Prevention Tips

Abnormal cholesterol is emerging as a silent epidemic among young Indians, with 25-30% of urban youth and 15-20% of rural youth already having elevated levels. Nearly one in five at-risk individuals remain undiagnosed. A 2026 study shows nearly two in five Indian adolescents have dyslipidemia, with low HDL being the most prevalent abnormality. Dr R Govindarajan advises baseline lipid screening between ages 20-25, daily movement, and fiber-rich nutrition as prevention strategies.

Aches and strains seem worse with age but we ambling amateur footballers just can’t let go | Max Rushden

I’m now at a time of life where a rib injury can feel like a ruptured spleen but playing still trumps watching, so we go again. AgainI woke up a few weeks ago with a searing pain under my left ribs. I ruled out heart attack relatively quickly – I haven’t read about your heart sagging as you enter deep middle age, or whatever your late 40s is. Breathing was uncomfortable, but not short – there were no stabbing pains. Inhaling ached, and it turns out you inhale all the time.Once I was confident of seeing out the remainder of the day, I started Googling other potential ailments in this region, confidently seizing upon ruptured spleen. It sounded impressive enough to put in a WhatsApp group. And so I went with it. Continue reading...
