A 26-year-old woman and her 50-year-old father, both Polish citizens living in New Jersey, pleaded guilty to defrauding New York City auction houses of at least $2 million through an art forgery scheme involving at least 200 fake paintings. The forgeries, created in Poland since 2020, included works attributed to Andrew Wyeth, Banksy, Andy Warhol, and Native American artist Fritz Scholder. The most profitable fake, a Richard Mayhew painting, sold for $160,000. They face over three years in prison and $1.9 million in restitution.
