Suwon Heavy Water Agency arrests additional marijuana cultivator in residential area of Seoul for 'No. 1 drug case'

Medication for 3,700 people confiscated at the same time... Committed a crime by purchasing cultivation equipment from an overseas site

(Suwon = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sol = The Suwon Regional Serious Crime Investigation Office (Suwon Heavy Crimes Investigation Office) arrested one additional suspect on the 1st in connection with the marijuana cultivation case in a residential area in Seoul, the 'No. 1 drug case to be opened.'

According to the Suwon Heavy Water Agency's Narcotics Joint Investigation Department (Director In-soo Ahn), on this day, the Suwon District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A, in his 20s, on suspicion of violating the Narcotic Drugs Control Act.

The reason for the issuance is “fear of flight.”

Previously, the Joint Drug Investigation Department applied for an arrest warrant for another suspect in this case, Mr. B, in his 20s, and received one from the court on the 30th of last month.

Mr. A and others are suspected of cultivating large quantities of marijuana by renting the 4th floor of a residential building in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul from January of last year until recently.

It was discovered that they continued to commit crimes using marijuana cultivation equipment purchased through overseas direct purchase sites.

The Joint Narcotics Investigation Department recognized the case after opening and conducted an investigation, arresting Mr. B on the 28th of last month and Mr. A on the 30th of the same month.

This is the first time that the Joint Narcotics Investigation Department has directly recognized the case since its opening and initiated an investigation, including securing the identity of the suspect.

The Joint Narcotics Investigation Department is the only department dedicated to joint investigation of narcotics among local central investigation offices across the country, and is a newly established organization following the previous Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Drug Crime Government Joint Investigation Headquarters (Joint Narcotics Headquarters).

A total of 43 people, including the Central Investigation Agency, the police, the Immigration and Foreigner Policy Headquarters, and the Korea Customs Service, are responding to drug-related crimes.
