1 billion 800 million TL transaction volume... 'Illegal betting' operation in 4 provinces: 32 detained

32 suspects were detained in a simultaneous operation against illegal betting activities in 4 provinces centered in Izmir.

A transaction volume of approximately 1 billion 800 million TL was detected in the bank accounts used by the suspects.

STATEMENT FROM THE GENERAL PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In the statement made by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the operation, the following was noted:

"In the investigation carried out within the scope of the crime of Opposition to the Law No. 7258 on the Regulation of Betting and Games of Chance in Football and Other Sports Competitions, by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate of the Izmir Provincial Police Department, under the coordination of our Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; in line with the technical studies carried out, researches and the statements taken, it was evaluated that the suspects were intermediaries in illegal betting on foreign websites.

In the financial analysis carried out, it was determined that the suspects used and managed bank accounts obtained from third parties in illegal betting activities, and that the accounts subject to investigation had a transaction volume of approximately 1 billion 800 million TL.

Within the scope of the investigation, a simultaneous operation was carried out in 4 provinces centered in Izmir against the suspects who were considered to be acting together within the criminal organization, providing bank accounts and GSM lines to be used in illegal betting activities, and intermediating the use of these accounts. As a result of the operation; A total of 32 suspects were detained, and a large number of digital materials were seized for examination during the searches carried out at the suspects' addresses. Efforts continue to capture the two suspects who are on the run. "The investigation is being carried out meticulously and multifacetedly by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."
