Pets have become like "family members" in modern society, and the relationship between people and pets and doctors is becoming more and more important. In order to improve the quality of Taiwan's animal medical care and establish a comprehensive pet blood donation system, the Veterinary Blood Transfusion Medicine Center was established 10 years ago at PSU. Today, it held a 10-year results presentation and published a picture book with the theme of blood-donating fur babies. It hopes to take root from an early age and allow more potential future owners to go home and convince their parents to join the ranks of fur babies at home donating blood to save dogs and cats.
The Veterinary Blood Transfusion Medicine Center of PKU has been operating for 10 years. It has successfully recruited 141 fur babies to donate blood, prepared 680 packs of blood products, and assisted in the treatment of 571 dogs and cats. It also created an educational picture book with the title "Brady Gets On!" 》, using the friendship of three fur babies to donate blood to save their friends, it promotes the correct concept of pet blood donation.

Cai Yilun, director of the Blood Transfusion Medicine Center and director of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, said that the Department of Veterinary Medicine at PKU started from scratch, introduced relevant technologies, and gradually established a large-scale animal transfusion medicine system in China. She pointed out that the blood donation animal selection system was strictly established with reference to foreign regulations, and through health assessment, blood testing and improved animal welfare management , to recruit and select stable and safe blood sources for dogs and cats. During the period, we also cooperated with Taichung National Animal Hospital and Kaohsiung Chung Hsing Massey Animal Medical Center to set up blood donation centers. We hope that more owners will lead their furry children to join the blood donation ranks, and together they will become "blood donation warriors" to protect life, thereby saving more precious lives of furry children.
Zhang Jinlong, President of Pingtung University, said that the center's establishment of animal blood donation qualification review and blood product process was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, and Professor Cai Yilun assisted in formulating regulations related to animal blood donation in Taiwan. It first won the Welfare and Symbiosis Model Award in the USR University Social Responsibility Award of Foresight Magazine in 2023, and now it has also won the National Science Council's cross-field support for social needs.
