Located upstream of the Ruilong Waterfall Park in Zhushan Town, Nantou County, the Jiachuliao River collapsed due to heavy rains for days yesterday. The collapse covered an area of ​​about 1.2 hectares and accumulated about 50,000 cubic meters of soil. This resulted in the formation of a barrier lake with a water storage capacity of about 100,000 metric tons. Natural overflows have occurred and waterways have been washed away.

Chen Dongmu, mayor of Zhushan Town, said that after consulting with personnel from the Water Conservation Department and the county government, they are closely monitoring and understanding the changes in the barrier lake and river course. There is a duck-raising family downstream that is close to the river course and has asked to evacuate. As for buildings, the Ruilong Falls Suspension Bridge, about 1 kilometer away from the barrier lake, has the bridge deck more than 20 meters from the river bed. The Water Conservation Department has assessed that if the barrier lake breaks out all at once, it is estimated that the water level in the downstream river will rise by about 70 centimeters, which will not affect the suspension bridge.

Chen Dongmu emphasized that the Jiazu Liaoxi barrier lake this time is different from the Caoling barrier lake in July last year.
