People Power Party raises criticism of 'Yellow Envelope Act' on 100th day of implementation

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwon Hee-won = People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeong-sik criticized the Yellow Envelope Act (Amended Trade Union Act), which marked its 100th day of enforcement on the 18th, saying, “The People Power Party’s warning has become a painful reality.”

On this morning, floor leader Jeong spoke at the '100 days since the implementation of the Yellow Envelope Act, what does the field say?' hosted by People Power Party lawmaker Park Soo-min. He attended the debate and said this.

He pointed out, "Last year, ahead of the enactment of the Yellow Envelope Act, Kim Yong-beom, head of the Blue House policy office, said something absurd, saying, 'It is not likely that companies will move overseas. If that situation arises, we can change the law again.' I don't know how they made such a reckless attempt to solve the side effects."

He continued, “It is said that in the 100 days since the implementation of the Yellow Envelope Act, 1,151 subcontracting unions requested negotiations with 431 main contractors,” and asked, “How much bigger must the problem be before the law is changed again?”

He said, "Recently, the National Labor Relations Commission ruled that large corporations must respond to collective bargaining not only for direct production processes for Hanwha Ocean and Hyundai Motors, but also for indirect support work such as meal and laundry expenses," and added, "We are preparing strong alternative legislation to prevent the damage of the yellow envelope law, which causes social chaos."

Rep. Park Soo-min said, "The Yellow Envelope Act was suddenly passed while the political situation was in turmoil, and there was no sufficient discussion about it. Rather than blaming the past, the starting point is what the confusion and problems that are currently happening in the field are."

He added, “The yellow envelope law is an experiment to expand the scope of employers,” and added, “The future of labor is not simple. Expanding the number of employers is rather a past frame, and the current frame is how to protect the rights of diversifying workers in the era of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) robots.”
