وأوضحت المنظمة أن جثث الضحايا الـ109 التي انتُشلت تعود إلى 52 رجلا و42 امرأة و15 طفلا، بينهم تسع فتيات وستة فتيان. ونجا من الحادث أكثر من 80 شخصا، جميعهم إثيوبيون.

وقالت المنظمة الدولية للهجرة "يدفع الفقر وانعدام الأمن والتداعيات المتزايدة للتغير المناخي كثيرين إلى خوض هذه الرحلة رغم تصاعد الاضطرابات في أنحاء الشرق الأوسط".
