100 dead were buried in Gaza, most of them children and women, after they were recovered from under the rubble

The Gaza Strip bid farewell in a solemn funeral procession to the bodies of 100 dead, the vast majority of whom were children and women, after civil defense crews were able to recover their remains from under the rubble of destroyed homes in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City.

The Gaza Civil Defense Service announced earlier that the bodies and remains of 55 Palestinians were recovered from under the rubble of a house destroyed by the Israeli army in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City, on November 19, 2023.

The operation comes within the second phase of the “Recovering the Bodies of Martyrs” project, which was launched by the Civil Defense on July 19, with the aim of recovering the remains of missing persons from under the rubble of destroyed buildings, amid an acute shortage of equipment and capabilities.

The project supervisor at the Civil Defense, Muhammad Abu Dan, said in a statement that the Civil Defense crews face great challenges in recovery operations due to the “limited equipment and heavy machinery,” calling on international humanitarian organizations and institutions to intensify their efforts to provide multiple, modern excavators and trucks, allowing the recovery of the largest possible number of bodies of missing persons under destroyed buildings.
