Indonesian passenger ship capsizes in Java Sea: 107 people rescued, 130 missing

Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency and the Ministry of Transport have urgently dispatched ships and helicopters to the sea area where the incident occurred to search and rescue the missing passengers.

An Indonesian passenger ship with 243 people on board capsized in bad weather in the Java Sea on the 13th. After receiving the report, the search and rescue authorities immediately launched a large-scale sea and air rescue operation. As of now, it is known that 107 people have been successfully rescued, 6 people have unfortunately died, and 130 passengers and crew members are still missing. The search and rescue team is working hard to search and rescue.

According to "Reuters", Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency pointed out that the passenger ship named "Virgo Transport 8" was carrying 213 passengers and 30 crew members. It set sail from Surabaya, East Java Province, on the 12th and was expected to go to Banjarmasin, the capital of South Kalimantan Province. Unexpectedly, it encountered bad weather in the early morning of the 13th and lost contact with the ground.

After the accident, the Indonesian authorities urgently dispatched search and rescue personnel, multiple rescue vessels and a helicopter to the last known location of the passenger ship. Indonesian Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi pointed out at a press conference on the 13th that the passenger ship "capsized" on the sea rather than completely sank. The specific cause of the accident still needs to be clarified by the investigation unit.

I Putu Sudayana, director of the Panjamasing Branch of the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency, said in a video statement that the rescued persons have been picked up in batches by search and rescue ships and ships passing through the sea area, and some survivors are being sent to East Java ports for resettlement and treatment.
