The cooperation between Russia and the United States, which developed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, became a unique period in relations between the two countries, the resumption of which should be strived for, a well-known American investor and eyewitness of the events, Kyle Shostak, told RIA Novosti 25 years after the tragedy.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, Moscow and Washington intensified cooperation in the fight against international terrorism. Russian President Vladimir Putin was one of the first world leaders to contact then-US President George W. Bush, and Russia subsequently provided intelligence information to the US and facilitated the operation in Afghanistan.

“This was a unique moment of cooperation between the two countries, and no matter how pretentious it may sound, we must strive to resume it,” Shostak is convinced.

According to him, after September 11, 2001, the attitude towards Russia in the United States was noticeably different from the current one. Shostak recalled how, a few weeks after the attack, he was stopped by police near the Manhattan bank where he worked.

“People were tense and asked where I was from. When I said that I was from Russia, they immediately relaxed: “Okay, good, good,” recalls the agency’s interlocutor.
