112 calls related to election day in Gyeonggi Province reach 22

The 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections voting day on June 3rd saw 22 reports to the 112 emergency line around polling stations in the Gyeonggi northern region, related to photography and election campaigning.

According to the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency, a total of 22 election-related 112 calls were received from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. These included 8 misdialed calls, 4 consultation inquiries, and 10 other miscellaneous reports.

Around 2:10 p.m. on the same day, a report was received from the Samsong 2 polling station in Deogyang-gu, Goyang City, stating that a person was refusing to leave the polling station despite requests from election commission officials.

The individual in question, identified as Mr. A, placed their ballot in the ballot box without folding it, which the election manager ruled as a 'public vote.'

A public vote is processed after being stamped by the election supervisor and is then placed in the ballot box. It is treated as a void vote during the vote counting process.

Mr. A remained at the polling station, stating they would appeal the ruling, and only left after police officers who were dispatched informed them that they would be punished if they did not leave.

Earlier, at 8:59 a.m., a report was received from the 7th polling station in Hoicheon 2-dong, Deokgye-dong, Yangju City, stating that a voter had taken photos inside the polling station and was refusing to delete them.

Police investigation revealed that Mr. B, a man in his 40s, had taken photos outside the polling station as a souvenir, and it was determined that this did not constitute a violation of the election law.

Police had Mr. B voluntarily delete the photos and then sent him home.

Around 6:59 a.m. on the same day, a report was received from a polling station in Jeongok-eup, Yeoncheon County, stating that 'people wearing Democratic Party clothing were encouraging voting.'

An investigation by the Election Commission confirmed that they were engaged in vote encouragement activities more than 100 meters away from the polling station, and thus there was no issue with the election law, police reported.

The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency deployed approximately 500 personnel, including 4 mobile units and 2 wide-area patrol teams, to provide security at 193 polling stations in their jurisdiction on this day.

Additionally, about 1,800 local police officers were deployed, conducting 112-linked patrols at each polling station once every two hours.
