Greece's Mount Olympus is on the World Heritage List after 12 years of waiting

Greece has been waiting for this day for 12 years, as Mount Olympus has finally been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. With a height of 2,916 metres, this mountain is the highest mountain in Greece, and a legendary symbol of the Greek gods. Before this honor, the mountain was a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and the country's first national park. The mountain's rugged peaks, deep valleys, forested slopes and cloud-covered peak make it worthy of the title "Mountain of the Gods." This wasn't the only destination associated with Christopher Nolan films to be crowned a World Heritage Site, as the landing beaches in Normandy, France (featured in Dunkirk) were added last week as well. "Dunkirk" was filmed on real sets in Normandy, while "The Odyssey" was filmed in six countries, including Greece, although Mount Olympus itself did not appear in the film.
