[US midterm election] Cindy Munson, the first Korean-American to run for governor, faces defeat in Oklahoma

According to the Associated Press, with the vote counting rate at 97%, Republican candidate Mike Mazzei received 51.98% of the votes, defeating candidate Munson, who received 45.87%, confirming his election.

Candidate Munson attempted to become the first Korean-American governor in U.S. history in Oklahoma, a traditionally Republican-dominant region, but was unable to overcome the limitations of the conservative-dominant terrain.

Candidate Munson, who was born to a Korean mother and an American soldier father, is Oklahoma's first Asian female legislator and has solidified her political position by rising to the position of Democratic leader in the state House of Representatives.
