Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez apologized to Macron for the Senate's refusal to ratify the treaty with France

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez apologized to French President Emmanuel Macron for the Spanish Senate's refusal to ratify the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the countries. This was reported by the Turkish agency Andolu.

The day before, on September 29, the Spanish Senate rejected the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with France, signed in January 2023. 142 senators voted against the document, 106 voted for it.

Sanchez commented on the Senate decision during a joint press conference with Macron in Madrid. “I can only apologize for the Senate vote on the treaty yesterday,” he said.

The French leader responded by expressing confidence that the agreement would ultimately be approved. He also stressed that there must be unity in Europe, because otherwise it “will have no chance of success.”
