The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics will be won by Belgian particle physicist Halzen in recognition of his contribution to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos originating from astrophysical processes. He will receive a prize of 12 million Swedish kronor. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 10.

On October 6, local time, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that it would award the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics to Francis Halzen in recognition of his decisive contribution to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical sources. This article also reviews the history of the Nobel Prize in Physics and its main achievements in recent years.

Francis Halzen has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hagermann and Georg Nagel for their discoveries in light-gated ion channels and optogenetics. Optogenetic technology has been used to study brain function and explore clinical applications. Domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies and start-ups have accelerated their deployment in the fields of ophthalmology and central nervous system diseases, and many projects have entered the clinical stage or received regulatory approval.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to the American scholar Deisseroth and the German scholars Hedgman and Nagel for their pioneering of optogenetics, which uses light to control nerve cells and opens up new ways to understand brain function and treat visual impairment.

Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, announced on Monday that this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be awarded to Deisseroth, Hegermann and Nagel in recognition of their outstanding contributions in the field of optogenetics, kicking off this year's Nobel Prize winning series.
