Hong Kong SAR Government: Actively preparing exhibitions and activities for the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen

China News Service, Hong Kong, August 16 (Reporter Zhao Jingyi) The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Law Shu-pui, attended an event in Hong Kong on the 16th and said that this year marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (referred to as "LCSD") is actively preparing to hold exhibitions and educational promotion activities in different areas of Hong Kong to allow the public to understand Dr. Sun Yat-sen's life story and historical contributions from multiple perspectives. Details of the activities will be announced later.

On the same day, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's "Why China" Cultural Masters Program commendation ceremony was held at Tai Kwun, Central, Hong Kong. Law Shu-pei attended and delivered a speech.

According to reports, the "Why China" cultural ambassador program will be launched in 2024. It will be donated by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, hosted by the United Hong Kong Foundation, and planned and implemented by the Chinese Cultural Research Institute under the United Hong Kong Foundation for a period of three years. The plan helps Hong Kong middle school students to explore the beauty of traditional Chinese culture through a series of different forms of learning activities, and has been recognized by all sectors of Hong Kong society.

It is planned to hold a total of 248 interactive lectures and physical workshops in 2025/2026, with more than 50,000 students from 50 middle schools participating in the activities. The 243 "Outstanding Cultural Ambassadors" who were commended this time completed key training and in-depth inspections locally and in the Mainland. The "Top Ten Outstanding Cultural Ambassadors" and the three schools that won the "Outstanding School Award" were announced at the commendation ceremony.

Luo Shupei said that Hong Kong is rooted in excellent Chinese culture, and the SAR government is committed to promoting the excellent traditional Chinese culture and promoting the development of Hong Kong's characteristic culture. She encouraged the "excellent cultural ambassadors" to turn the knowledge and insights learned during the training process into actions and continue to cultivate, spread and promote Chinese culture in the community.

"From the traditional clothes on the body to the Chinese-style buildings that can be seen everywhere in the city, Chinese culture is everywhere." Zhong Siqi, who participated in the long-gown theme workshop, shared that the first step to inherit culture is to see and pay attention to the traditional culture around us.
