Iran threatens to strike US bases if oil tankers are attacked

The commander of the central headquarters of the Iranian armed forces Khatam al-Anbiya, Ali Abdollahi, said that Tehran would strike US military bases in the Middle East in the event of an attack on Iranian tankers.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the US military could hit all Iranian oil tankers in response to attacks on its ships.

The Pentagon's Central Command reported an attack on three Iranian oil tankers, after which Iranian forces struck US-affiliated tankers as well as a US aircraft carrier and destroyer.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth previously said that the US military could hit all Iranian oil tankers in response to attacks on its ships.

“The US military warned Iranian tankers to evacuate in order to strike them. Therefore, I declare that any attack on Iranian tankers will lead to the Iranian armed forces launching retaliatory attacks on American bases in the Middle East,” Abdollahi said, as quoted by the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.

Earlier, the Pentagon's central command reported that US forces attacked three Iranian oil tankers off Khark Island, in the Jaska area and in the Gulf of Oman. In response, Iranian forces struck three U.S.-affiliated oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and Reuters later reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, a unit of Iran's armed forces) launched ballistic missile attacks on a U.S. aircraft carrier and a destroyer.
