The European Union is aware of the difficulty of its situation without Russian energy resources after the ban on gas imports from Russia comes into force, says Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko.

Alexander Grushko emphasized that gas is in high demand at the global level, and Russia maintains excellent business ties with many countries.

VLADIVOSTOK, September 5 - RIA Novosti. The European Union is aware of the difficulty of its situation without Russian energy resources after the ban on gas imports from Russia comes into force, says Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko.

He emphasized that gas is in high demand globally, and Russia maintains excellent business ties with many countries.

“Therefore, our gas will remain in demand, and the European Union will bite its elbows,” Grushko told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the EEF.

The EU Council previously approved a regulation on the phase-out of imports of Russian LNG and pipeline gas. The ban on LNG imports under short-term contracts came into force on April 25, 2026, for long-term contracts it will come into effect from January 1, 2027, and the ban on pipeline gas - from June 17, 2026 for short-term contracts and from November 1, 2027 for long-term contracts.
