Israeli Makan TV announces an $18 billion plan to reconstruct Gaza

These measures come within what the television described as an experimental phase that is supposed to begin in the city of Rafah before later extending to other areas.

According to the report, the planned projects include the rehabilitation of sewage networks, electricity, and roads, in addition to the restoration of institutions, buildings, and homes that were partially damaged during the war.

Makan's correspondent said that financing the projects depends on financial allocations and pledges to the Peace Council, pointing to figures amounting to about 18 billion dollars, including about 10 billion dollars from the United States, and 7 billion from Arab countries, in addition to European contributions.

However, the number reported by Israeli television differs from the latest data announced in the Peace Council reports, which talked about pledges amounting to about 17 billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza, in contrast to international estimates indicating that the cost of rebuilding the Strip may reach more than 71 billion dollars.

The report added that the Palestinian committee of technocrats charged with managing civil affairs in Gaza has prepared a two-year work plan, which will begin in the coming weeks to implement projects related to the rehabilitation of basic services.

On the security side, Makan TV indicated that there are plans to deploy a Palestinian police force in the areas from which Hamas and its security services will withdraw, and said that members of the former Palestinian police are being prepared to assume these tasks, and that their training is taking place or will take place in Egypt for several months.

The report also talked about arrangements related to a future international force scheduled to be deployed in various areas of the Gaza Strip, according to stages related to the withdrawal of Israeli forces from additional areas, indicating that the Peace Council is pushing towards accelerating the transition to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan.

Makan also indicated that the international companies that will participate in the reconstruction projects will, according to the plan, rely on Palestinian workers from the Gaza Strip, which may provide broad job opportunities in light of the economic crisis and high unemployment in the Strip.

This information comes as the official website of the Peace Council confirms that restoring stability and establishing a civil administration in Gaza constitutes part of its mission. The Council also announced the formation of a national committee to manage the sector. However, the official website does not, until now, display a detailed announcement confirming all the dates, executive arrangements, and numbers that were mentioned in the Makan TV report.
