Taitung County commends 19 everlasting role models and 19 role models for respecting the elderly. Chen Wuchun is the oldest at 93 years old and Wang Shengxian is the youngest at 22 years old.

The Taitung County Government held today the "115 Years of Everlasting Models and Respecting the Elderly Models" event, with the theme of "The road to role models lasts forever". County Mayor Rao Qingling commended 19 everlasting models and 19 models of respecting the elderly, paying the highest respect to each model who dedicates himself to his family, serves the community and cares for the elderly.

The Social Affairs Department explained that each of the 38 evergreen role models and role models for respecting the elderly who were commended this year has their own wonderful story. Some have spent their lives guarding their families and enthusiastically serving their hometowns, while others have devoted themselves to caring for the elderly for a long time and practice the spirit of respecting the elderly through companionship and actions. Among the recipients, the oldest is 93-year-old Taitung City Youth Model Chen Wuchun, and the youngest is 22-year-old Lanyu Township Model Respecting the Elderly Wang Shengxian. The 71-year age difference between the two also gives the recognition event cross-generational significance. From the wisdom accumulated over a lifetime by the elderly to the actions taken by the younger generation in caring for the elderly, different ages show care and dedication on the "Model Road", symbolizing the continued inheritance of the value of respecting and caring for the elderly regardless of age.

The Social Affairs Department stated that this year, the county government has produced exclusive cover commemorative special issues and videos for each winner, recording the life journey and touching deeds of 38 role models. The ceremony was broadcast live, and attendees saw the glorious moment when the winners stood on the stage, and learned about their stories along the way. Singer Sayuri and dance group Don’t Stop were also invited to perform wonderful singing and dancing performances. Through the melody and energetic stage performance, they interacted enthusiastically with the role models, elders and guests, and shared the joy of winning the award.

Rao Qingling said that in addition to continuing to promote the spirit of respecting the elderly through the Evergreen Model and Respecting the Elderly Model commendation activities, the county government also actively promotes diversified welfare policies for the elderly. Starting from New Year's Day this year, "Elders over 70 years old and registered in Taitung for one year will receive a full subsidy for the deductible of health insurance premiums." The elderly care gift fund has also been increased from 500 yuan to 2,000 yuan this year, and will be gradually distributed in cash or remittance starting from October 8.
